Bike Finder Fitting
A Bike Finder Fitting is the perfect choice for a customer who is looking to purchase the best-fitting bike for their body; the epitome of ‘fitting bike to rider, not rider to bike’. During the 15-30min fit, we will use our GURU dynamic fit system to take the rider’s measurements, which provide a starting point. Then the fitter will ask questions and make adjustments to the fit bike as the rider pedals, assessing such factors as saddle choice, saddle height, seat tube angle, crank arm length, reach to handlebars, width of handlebars and much more until the rider is riding as comfortably, safely, and powerfully as possible- their best riding position. We can also use the GURU fit bike to accurately mimic the geometry of hundreds of different bikes, whether we sell that brand or not, so interested riders can virtually ‘try’ them and compare them against each other at varying resistance levels and while climbing or descending. Motion analysis is included and gives insight into how fit adjustments affect form.
Once that position has been established, a custom report will be created for the rider with personalized recommendations for the top 6-10 sizes and models of bikes, by all major bike brands, that accommodate their best riding position. The following information on how to set up each bike so that it corresponds to their best fit is also included for each recommended model: seat height, saddle position, stem length and setup, amount of headset spacers, and any other parts necessary. This report can be emailed to them, printed, or both.
The bikes this fit might recommend may be models we sell, models we do not sell, or a combination of both, and the information provided is applicable to all. The rider can use the information provided to make a purchase of a new bike wherever they wish. If they choose to purchase a bike from BicycleSPACE within 90 days of their Bike Finder Fit, the price of the fit will be applied towards the new bike.
GURU Fit Level 1
This fit is for the rider who would like to be more comfortable and powerful on a bike that they already own, using the GURU fit system. This fit typically takes about 1-1.5 hours and all types of bicycles and riders are welcomed. Their bike will be measured and input into the system so the fit bike will mimic their current position, and the rider’s measurements will be digitally taken and assessed by the fit system to establish a baseline position. Once the rider gets on the bike and starts pedaling, the fitter will assess, talk to the rider, and make adjustments as necessary. These will include saddle choice, saddle height, saddle fore/aft position, saddle angulation, handlebar width and shape, grip/hood positioning, reach to brake levers, cleat position, Q factor, and any other adjustments necessary to achieve a comfortable, safe, and strong fit.
Furthermore, the rider will be able to ‘try’ new fit positions virtually and compare them against each other at varying resistance levels and while climbing or descending. Motion analysis is included and gives insight into how fit adjustments affect form. All this data helps the fitter and rider make informed decisions and guide the process to their best fit on their bike.
Once the best fit has been decided upon, a report will be created that can be emailed and/or printed for the rider, with information about the changes that will need to be made to their current bike. The fitter will make these changes for the customer and schedule the bike for any service that may be required to accommodate them, if necessary. At the finish, the bike will be returned to the customer fitting just like the best position that was achieved on the GURU fit bike.
GURU Fit Level 2
Fit Level 2 is our highest level of fit service on the GURU fit bike, for the rider who wants the best biomechanical advantage and ultimate confidence and comfort on their bike. Including everything our Level 1 fit offers and more, Level 2 combines the technology of GURU with the anatomical analysis and attention to detail of Body Geometry (BG) Fit, with a certified Body Geometry fitter, and takes about 2-2.5 hours. This makes this the fit best for riders who may be contending with serious discomfort or injuries (past or present), as well as athletes wishing to maximize their efficiency and power.
We begin with a thorough physical assessment of the rider’s flexibility, limitations, asymmetricalities, and other unique features that affect their performance on the bike. This includes looking at the forefoot and arch, ankles, IT band/quad/hamstring tightness, standing posture, identifying leg length discrepancies, limitations in shoulder and neck flexibility, and many more points of reference. After the assessment is complete and the fitter continues through the fit, they are able to do so with a much greater degree of sensitivity to the rider’s physical needs that they may not even be aware of, and can guide the rider to create healthier, more sustainable cycling form. Understanding how the rider and bike move together creates the most comprehensive fit for that rider, which is why GURU Level 2 is our most effective dynamic fit service.
Fit Level 3 / Rob's Ultimate
This is Rob’s most all-encompassing fit. Typically lasting about 3 hours, Rob will apply his considerable attention to detail and experience to perfect the rider’s relationship to their bike. A rider physical assessment will also be given as part of this fit for the most comprehensive approach. The physical assessment examines the rider’s flexibility, limitations, asymmetricalities, and other unique features that affect their performance on the bike. Therefore, Fit Level 3 is our most comprehensive traditional fitting service.
Services offered at all locations:
Sizing (with bike purchase)
A sizing is a free service for a rider who is interested in discovering what size new bike they should get. Typically sizing is a general guideline- geometries and sizes vary widely between brands and models so there is no one correct size for an individual. We can give specific sizes for in-stock models that will fit comfortably, or can give a general sense for a particular style of bicycle more broadly. The salesperson will check the standover height, reach, and seat height for the customer on a bike of the type they are interested in to ensure that the bike fits safely and comfortably. At our Ivy City location, if time allows, we can also use our GURU dynamic fit bike to accurately mimic other bicycles you may wish to try that are not currently available in-store.
After a new bike purchase, we are happy to provide complimentary additional sizing of about 5-10min in duration to confirm saddle height, saddle fore/aft position, saddle angulation, handlebar tilt, grip positioning, reach to brake levers, and other minor adjustments that can be made using the stock parts on the bike.
Sizing (bike purchased elsewhere)
If you’re looking for a quick basic setup for a new (or new to you) bike, a sizing is for you. A trained staff member will help the rider determine saddle height, saddle fore/aft position, and saddle angulation. Adjustments to handlebar tilt, grip positioning, and brake lever positioning may also be made. Typically sizings on bikes purchased elsewhere take 20 minutes or less.
Fit Level 1
This is a basic fit that examines and adjusts saddle choice and position (height, fore-aft adjustment, angulation) and handlebar choice and position (height, reach, angulation, width, hood and lever positioning). Typical duration is about 1-1.5 hours.
Fit Level 2
Including everything covered in the Level 1 fit and more, Level 2 fits add side by side comparison with pedal stroke analysis, which assists in maximizing efficiency and power. This includes additional fitting of the foot including possibly cleat shims, insoles, or forefoot shims. Duration is typically about 1.5-2 hours.
Policies and Scheduling:
Weekend and holiday scheduling are not typically available, except at the discretion of the fitter.

What you should know in advance of your fit:
Make sure you have allocated the appropriate amount of time in your schedule, and try to arrive 10 minutes before your fit if possible to get comfortable and fill out any necessary paperwork. If possible, the rider should wear or bring cycling or athletic apparel that is close-fitting, so the fitter can see what their body is doing on the bike and what they typically ride in- it also helps to keep you comfortable! Please also bring any other accessories or apparel you use that may affect your fit- shoes, pedals, gloves, helmets with visors, backpacks or messenger bags, insoles or orthotics, etc. Previous fit data, if in existence, can also be beneficial to bring. And of course, the bike you wish to be fit on!
Please also be advised that new parts might be necessary to attain the best fit position on your bike. While the fitter will do their best to utilize the parts currently on the bike, replacement may be required to achieve your best fit. If this may be an issue for you, feel free to discuss your budget for upgrades and changes for your bike with your fitter so they can take your needs into account.
What’s included with a fitting service (and what’s not):
All paid fit services include the following in addition to the fit itself:
A 15 minute follow-up appointment with your fitter after you have had a chance to ride the new fit position for at least a week, in case you have any lingering issues or concerns.

Paper and/or email copies of their fit report, which are also backed up here in case they are ever lost.
Assistance sourcing any parts recommended during the fit
No fit services include the following:

2 bikes for the price of 1 (although additional fittings on other bikes the customer owns may be offered at a discount)
