A Tour of Public Art

Recently, a large group of nearly 200 people attended an evening bike ride to tour parts of DC in search of public murals. After meeting at BicycleSPACE, the group was led north through Petworth, Columbia Heights, and Adams Morgan stopping at select art works along the way.

Mazi Mutafa of Words Beats & Life Inc and Murals DC narrated the tour, offering insight into the background, meaning, and history of the pieces. His colleague, Autumn Saxton-Ross was also on hand to lend support.

Halfway through the ride participants stopped at a park to enjoy a popsicle break and relax. It was a great opportunity to mingle and discuss some of the art that had been seen.

Ultimately, the group made its way towards U Street and the ride culminated at the newly opened Veracruz Gallery-- a new art space dedicated to promoting large-format art work. Bike parking racks had been set up beforehand, and participants were able to go inside to see the gallery and grab a drink.

BicycleSPACE would like to thank both Mazi and Autumn for helping us organize this fun event! Their organizations do a lot to enhance the possibilities for public art.
